During one of their songs, John Spinney, the lead singer, climbs the nearby speaker cabinet and like the nightwatchman at his perch during the storm, glared out toward the crowd and started singing his song. Perched with the mic on the speaker, he lunged forward, and crowd surfed into the crowd.

It feels like every time we see YTG perform they keep getting better and better. It’s been incredible to watch them grow through these last few years and we can’t wait to see where the future will take them.

Both bands have created a huge following during their long careers and the show sold out quickly.

The Grammy-award winning, MTV darling of the ‘80s brought her 40th anniversary show (yes, it’s been four decades since the release of her debut album, In the Heat of the Night), to Tacoma’s Emerald Queen Casino this past Friday (July 26). There were classic hits, new twists given to old favorites, and a preview of something new.

The band cranked out song after song, the majority from four of its six albums, starting with “Devil,” the first single off its latest album, Attention Attention. The band was in fine form, led by Brent Smith’s powerful vocals, complemented by guitarist Zach Myers, bassist Eric Bass, and drummer Barry Kerch.

His debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, released just last month has received wide acclaim and his fans were singing along to every word as if it was the only thing they were living for.

This is a quintet that wins you over as the night progresses and you get to feel their overall vibe. It was a unique and intriguing show and it was great to be there to witness it all.

The rising stars Kali Uchis and Jorja Smith brought their The Kali & Jorja Tour to excited fans and both sets were equality impressive.

Overall, I felt that this year’s Fisherman’s Village Music Festival was one of the best ever. It was more low-key and relaxing being in a central area, simply, it worked. Moving it out of Downtown Everett was a good move and it will be great to see how this event grows for 2020.

The set included the lovely, “Comptine d’un autre été : L’Après-midi,” where we all stood still and tried to process the magical sound. Something about that piece that so many can relate to without a single word reminds us all of the power of music.

May 9 was a double header for fans of Filthy Friends in Seattle, with an afternoon showcase at KEXP’s Gathering Space, and a full set later that evening at Neumos.

You can easily see why she’s on everyone’s favorite list, after her live set you’re walking around blaming everything on your “Juice.” We can’t wait to have her back for Capitol Hill Block Party in July and you should all be there too.

Nina Simone: Four Women is about ideas and debates we’re still having today, and how the energy of those debates inspires music and art. It’s a reminder of how far we have come, and also how far we still have to go. But the songs of Nina Simone make that journey a little bit easier.

After the well-deserved success of her 4th studio album, Lost on You, LP returned with the release of Heart to Mouth and a much anticipated sold out tour. The show originally scheduled back in February was rescheduled to Showbox SoDo and it was still not big enough for the rising artist.

The set was intense right from the beginning, as her black hair waived around the stage and the first signs of sweat started to show. She is so charismatic when she takes the floor it is hard to take your eyes off of her.
