Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our sixth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’ll be showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about. For the fourth year in a row, the showcase is once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene on there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured act is Dark Smith.

About the artist:

Earlier this year we premiered a ripping new cut called “Seattle Is Burning” from DARK SMITH, a Seattle band with an addictive sound.

“Seattle Is Burning” is the closing track of Dark Smith’s second release Degressive, which came out May 24th on digital and cassette via Youth Riot Records. The song’s creation and sound was heavily driven by years of circuiting Seattle house shows and navigating a sense of mounting aggression in the underground local scene.

While taking plenty of sonic twists and turns, the band never ventures far from the ethereal nu-wave sounds that are in their DNA. Among the accolades the band received for the new release was inclusion in Seattle Public Library’s Playback Collection, which allows users the ability to download any album in the collection with a library card. Although according to their Facebook page the band is on hiatus, we look forward to hearing what they come up with next.

Check out “Seattle Is Burning” and the rest of the album below.
