Please check out Verity Credit Union, our great partner in the 100 Bands in 100 Days local music showcase.
Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.
Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured band is BEARAXE.
About the band:
Led Zeppelin meets Lead Belly. Rooted in prog-rock with a thunder of soul, Seattle band BEARAXE is a triumphant sweep of rebellion with a shot glass full of liberation. A mulit-faceted vocal texture is paired with evocative guitar solos by Matt Williams and heart-thumping jams by Jon Lemmon and “Nukks” Tuitama. Their debut EP “Last Call” is an unapologetically chaotic story of Black Feminism produced by Grammy award winning, rock and roll legend Jack Endino. “Last Call” dives into the pain and pleasure of a self-inflicted party.
BEARAXE has been rocking dive bars across the Northwest since the summer of 2016 — headlining shows at historic Seattle venues like The Central Saloon, Hardrock Cafe and Tractor Tavern — all while merging their unique brand of storytelling with the low-lit grit of the Seattle grunge movement.
If you haven’t heard of today’s featured band previously, be prepared for a northwest rock & roll thrill ride. Nearly impossible to stick a label on and place in one specific genre, BEARAXE goes into the laboratory and invents their own sound. One minute you’ll be listening to the sweetest vocal stylings on the scene, courtesy of Shaina Shepherd and the next minute, she unleashes her powerful instrument, displaying one of the most powerful sets of pipes in northwest rock today. Although it’s hard to get enough of her addictive, soul-crushing voice, the rest of the band holds down their end of the bargain as well, consistently dropping copious amounts of groove-heavy music that will give you just what you came for. This one is highly recommended listening and you can do that HERE.
