Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our sixth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’ll be showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about. For the fourth year in a row, the showcase is once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene on there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured act is CHAD.

About the band:

As we barrel straight into fall with the dark and gloomy weather that goes along with it, oftentimes we head out in search of music that matches the mood, and other times it just sort of finds us. “Leonard Nemoy” released yesterday by Portland’s CHAD, is one of the ones that found us. The irresistibly gorgeous vocals of Sarah Lane make this a track that will stay on our playlists for months to come. Check out the music below and we’re pretty sure you’ll come away feeling the same way.

“Leonard Nemoy” is about the ups and downs in relationships and how difficult it can be to control one’s emotions. I compared the anger to the eye of the storm — you can’t hide from it no matter how hard you try. The childlike vocals haunt you throughout the song while melodic bass and synth lines keep your head swinging.

CHAD was formed in a basement in Portland, Oregon where four hopeless CHADs came together to write a modern day pop album. Sarah Lane weaves sweet slacker vocals between effortless layers of guitar, bass and keys while tight hip-hop beats make your head bump.

CHAD’s first single, “I Got Time” debuted on KEXP and was streamed on various music blogs across the country. The songs were produced by Cameron Spies (Radiation City, Night Heron) and mastered by Calvin Hobbess. CHAD just signed a deal with Marmoset Music and has a slate of shows coming up. The new single “Leonard Nemoy” is now available on iTunes, Spotify and other streaming platforms and the debut EP will be out Oct. 25th.
