Premiere: Listen to “Bad, Bad Days” by The Civilians

Premiering today on Northwest Music Scene is killer new tune called “Bad, Bad Days” by The Civilians, a Seattle band with a familiar sound that you just can’t quite put your finger on. The new tune is reminiscent of the twangier side of Tom Petty and sounds like something that could have came out of Laurel Canyon but it’s not some cheap imitation, The Civilians are creating their own unique thing here.

“Bad, Bad Days” was written during a turbulent series of months over the course of 2018 and 2019 when each band member suffered the loss of significant numbers of friends and family. In a recent profile on The Civilians, local writer Jake Uitti noted that on “Bad, Bad Days”, lead singer Chris Livesay, “croons and howls in the face of disaster, all the while knowing life is cruel and the bonds that hold us together can be frighteningly fragile.” The COVID-19 pandemic and recent violent acts against communities of color certainly amplify the core themes of the song.
