Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured band is Monitor.

About the band:

Monitor is an eclectic, Seattle-based indie band who strive to create musical worlds that help to shed new light on the one big world we all live on. In 2016, vocalist Dave Raskin and guitarist Connor Smith moved in together to write what would become Monitor’s debut album, ‘Memorand’, and travelled to Brooklyn, NY to record it with producer Kyle Joseph. Raskin and Smith hoped to create a diverse palette of musical colors on ‘Memorand’, and when it released in 2017, critics believed that they succeeded, describing it as a “delicate” and “trippy odyssey”. The duo recruited Jack McGrath to help bring the album to life for live performances and the group jumped head-first into sharing it with audiences all over the West Coast.

Now, after over a year of continual gigging and touring in promotion of Memorand, Connor, Dave and Jack are shacked up in a basement in Seattle, surrounded by dusty, old amplifiers next to pristine computer chassis; analog circuits next to silicone chips; flickering candles next to blinking LEDs; vintage guitars leaning against cutting-edge synthesizers. Monitor are working, working and working to bring new music to life. Continue to monitor Monitor: that music might find you sooner than you think.

Today’s featured band creates an intense kaleidoscope of sound, dropping indie-rock riffs, intense lyrics and Raskin’s distinct, powerful vocals. If you are looking for a northwest band that doesn’t sound like anyone else around here, we are confident you’ve found them. 2017’s release of Memorand proves the band has what it takes to get to the next level and as we all wait patiently for the new stuff to be born, check out the latest release with us HERE.
