Strength Through Song July 28 at The Vera Project

Kathleen Parrish, Missoni Lanza, and Champagne Honeybee proudly present: Strength Through Song, a benefit for the National Eating Disorders Association. This event will take place on Friday, July 28th at The Vera Project, which has long been a supportive space for collaboration and artistic expression. Kathleen Parrish, a Seattle musician, writer, and eating disorder awareness advocate, curated this very special night of music, poetry, and storytelling. As a survivor herself, she wanted to use her art to aid NEDA in fulfilling their vision. According to their website (nationaleatingdisorders.org), in the United States, 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, or an Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder. NEDA’s mission is to support individuals and families affected by eating disorders, and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care. NEDA provides programs and services to give families the support they need to find answers for these life-threatening illnesses.

As previously mentioned, Kathleen Parrish is a writer, as well as an award nominated musician. Parrish’s songwriting blends alternative rock with classical and jazz influences, demonstrating a fresh and interesting take on contemporary songwriting. Her lead single from her debut EP Veins, “Red Fleece Jacket”, earned a nomination in the 2014 International Songwriting Contest. Following Veins, Parrish released “Ghosts”, further exploring her songwriting in a more progressive tone. Her journalism, both mental health and music based, has been featured on To Write Love on Her Arms, Hello Giggles, Sonicbids, ASCAP, The Free Woman, and more.  Parrish is currently working on her upcoming single, “Architect of Reality”.

Also performing is Missoni Lanza, who sings of love- lost, unrequited, enchanted and cursed. Her music evokes memories of a bygone era entwined with the present. Heavily influenced by jazz, blues and soul, Lanza instills an honest vulnerability into her music. Her vocal stylings are smooth and sultry that captivates her audiences throughout the States and in Europe. She has opened for artists such as Nicole Atkins, Dylan Leblanc, Marc Broussard & more. Her song, “I’ll Always Be A Stranger” was selected as a semi-finalist in two categories in both the Unsigned Only and the International Songwriting Competition. Lanza is currently writing for her first full-length album.

Rounding out the bill is Champagne Honeybee. Champagne Honeybee is singer/songwriter, Rani Weatherby, her trusty ukuleles, and talented backing band. Their style ranges from soft jazz, to blues rock, to high energy funk. Performances have taken them all over the Pacific Northwest, and to the Midwest and East Coast. Media appearances include the Bob Rivers Show, Band in Seattle, KSER’s Sunlit Room, and Gramma’s Attic Music Revue on Connecticut Public Television. They released 2 EPs of original music, “No Love Songs in 2014, and “Once in a Lifetime” in 2016. Champagne Honeybee was voted the #4 Local Band in King 5’s Best of Western Washington contest in 2014, and the #2 Wedding Band in 2016.

Strength Through Song is an all-ages event. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. at The Vera Project (Republican and Warren, at Seattle Center), and tickets are $12. 35% of ticket sales will be donated directly to NEDA.
