75 Bands in 75 Days – Day 12: Bradford Loomis & Beth Whitney

loomis-WhitneyLadies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we’re showcasing some of the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, at least one band per day, leading up to December 31st, to ring in a new year. The 12th band up is a rising northwest duo that makes beautiful music together. Here is Bradford Loomis & Beth Whitney.

When artists Beth Whitney and Bradford Loomis began writing together, they had no idea their casual co-writing experiment would blossom into the much anticipated album The Banner Days, released August 23rd on MTS Records. That first night, they wrote My Beloved in two hours. And after a few more writing sessions, it was clear to them both, that these songs merited a bold decision. From the first time they played together, along with Beth’s husband/collaborator Aaron Fishburn, the chemistry has been powerful. The combination of Beth’s delicate, pure, and melodious voice and Bradford’s soulful, growling tone makes for a beautifully heart wrenching harmonious blend.

The album The Banner Days has been one our favorites to come out of the northwest so far this year. The first song begins with Beth showcasing her beautiful voice instantly accompanied by some great picking and Bradford jumping in with perfectly matched harmonies. They take turns singing lead on this song, with the other being quite comfortable in the supporting role. The piano and the string arrangement on this tune are fantastic additions and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a prettier song anywhere.

On “Wanted Man”, Loomis belts out the words showing off his own incredible voice. While his vocals on this song are reminiscent of Gregg Allman, it has a sound all it’s own. The song possesses an upbeat melody that would be impossible to place a genre tag on, which is pretty consistent throughout the rest of the album. There are hints of americana, country, country blues and adult contemporary just to name a few.

We look forward to hearing much more from this duo.
