75 Bands in 75 Days – Day 70: Mrs. Howl

Mrs Howl

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we’re showcasing some of the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, at least one band per day, leading up to December 31st, to ring in a new year. This list is in no particular order and it is not a chart or a countdown. It’s merely a list of bands or musicians that we feel are worthy of checking out. The band for day 70 is a band that now calls the northwest home, they are Mrs. Howl.

Mrs. Howl came out of nowhere and quickly took the San Antonio music scene by storm. In less than a year they recorded an EP and a full length album, the latter produced by Girl in a Coma’s Nina Diaz. The music is fun, simple and will make you dance. Mrs. Howl’s main goal is to make fans feel like they’re apart of the show. This isn’t your typical stay on the stage kind of band. They will get the audience involved and dancing. Fans will tell you, this is what keeps this coming back over and over. They didn’t just go to a rock show, they experienced it.

Now the band calls Seattle home and they have a convenient 3 piece setup consisting of only vocals, guitar and drums (like their idols the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.) Mrs Howl fans compare their style to Blondie, Elastica and The Dead Weather. Don’t expect to be sitting down at a Mrs Howl show! Singer Chelsea and guitarist Laurel command the stage so well, they will bring even Seattle’s sometimes still audience to the stage.

Take Elastica, cross them with Blondie, add dance beats and big, catchy guitar licks — then sprinkle in a little Cajun flavoring, and you have Mrs Howl.
