Review: Dude York Drops Stellar 2-Song Rock EP, ‘Lose Control/Love Is’

If every relationship was as dreamy and rocked as hard as Dude York, no one would ever break up. I just got introduced to them and I’m already crushing hard. This trio is pumping out relationship-driven power pop tunes that will have you demanding more from them right after listening. Lose Control/Love Is is a short sampling from this band, and it’s not enough, but is it an ever-satisfying eight minutes and 51 seconds.

My favorite of the two tracks is the lengthy “Love Is.” However, it’s so good, it’s over before I want it to be and I want more. “Love Is” has flavorings of Veruca Salt, Biff Naked, and if Hole was really good. It’s dripping with emotionally charged vocals and compelling lyrics like, “It’s toxic, but I’ll dive in.” On the ‘flip side,’ “Lose Control” edges into the likes of The Bravery and Kaiser Chiefs with their second lead vocalist. It’s so full of power pop goodness, my head wants to explode with kittens every time I hear it.

If Dude York is determined to put out music this good with two different vocalists, I’m super excited to see what else they have to share with the world.

(Lose Control/Love Is can be purchased via Dude York’s Bandcamp page for a measly $2, and is totally worth the investment.)
