Premier: Watch new video for “Waves” by Hi Crime

Premiering today on Northwest Music Scene is brand new video for “Waves” from Hi Crime. The song and video are a perfect way to welcome summer back into our lives.

Hi Crime is a Seattle-based indie pop band that began in 2015 as a recording project between songwriters Brielle Rutledge and Mitch Etter. After releasing 2016’s Foreign Hours EP, and 2018’s The Kids Still Got It LP, Hi Crime is back with “Waves”, their first new music in a year.

“Waves” finds the band confidently striding along in this mid-tempo folk ballad, as Rutledge sings a self-reminder “It’s only midnight, it’s only just the waves.” The lyrics come across as a mantra coming straight from the singer’s journal, reassuring herself to remain calm during change. Like the tide, the song ebbs & flows, ultimately reaching a large crescendo of instruments that nearly drown the words, though Rutledge continues to triumphantly fight with her voice.

For the music video, Hi Crime worked with videographer Dylan Randolph to create a dreamy visual companion to the song. Shot at Golden Gardens in Seattle, the video follows the band from sunset into the night along the beach. Complete with beautiful underwater scenes, sparklers, lanterns, fish and more!
