Northwest Folklife Announces Region-Wide Call for Performers

NW Folklife

Largest Community-Powered Arts and Culture Festival in the U.S., Northwest Folklife Festival, Announces Region-Wide Call
for Performers

Seattle, Washington (September 17, 2015) – Northwest Folklife today announced its open invitation to musicians, dancers, community groups, artists, storytellers, and instructors to participate in its 45th annual Northwest Folklife Festival over Memorial Day weekend, May 27-30, 2016 at Seattle Center. Northwest Folklife is a year-round nonprofit whose mission is to create opportunities for all to celebrate, share, and participate in the evolving cultural traditions of the Pacific Northwest.

Northwest Folklife’s signature Festival event attracts roughly a quarter million attendees from all over the world to Seattle Center grounds every year, rain or shine. The Festival prides itself on showcasing over 5,000 performers from over 65 cultural groups of the Northwest on over 25 stages in the course of just four days.

“We believe everyone is a bearer of folk arts, and we encourage communities to share their cultural traditions, in the hope that interaction with new audiences will enrich the community as much as the audience,” Rob Townsend, Northwest Folklife executive director comments. “Last year dozens of cultures were represented from Hawaiian, Hip-Hop, Indian, and Vietnamese to Quebecois, Native American, Indie, and so, so much more.”

Interested parties must be based in the Northwest region including Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon, Washington state, and Western Montana.
