DIY music festivals in the middle of nowhere seem to be all the rage in Seattle these days. There’s just something about the feeling you get watching a really good local band play on a makeshift stage at a repurposed space in a city you’ve likely never even heard of with at most 50 other people that you just don’t get at a more traditional festival. If you can’t get enough of these sorts of environments, then you should consider heading up to Bow, Washington next month for the second annual LaFlamapalooza. …No, we’ve never heard of Bow, WA either, but all you need to know is that it’s an hour north of Seattle (and 20 minutes south of Bellingham).
Founded and organized by Cam LaFlam, drummer and vocalist of Seattleites and Topshelf Records signees Great Grandpa, the fittingly-titled LaFlamapalooza will be taking over an undisclosed location in Bow, WA for a day (and night) of local music fun, camping, and bonfires, while also benefiting the organization Reel Grrls. On top of LaFlam’s Great Grandpa, the lineup also boasts such names as The Exquisites, Heavy Petting, Merso, Naked Hour, and more.
At just $15 a ticket, you really can’t go wrong. While Seattle festival season definitely isn’t hurting for more worthwhile music festivals, LaFlamapalooza is one of a few in particular that stands out, thanks to its remote, private, five-acre location and the amount of options made available by holding a festival at such a space.
