Cheney Stadium will play host to the first annual Cheneyville Music Festival on Sunday, August 28th. The festival is headlined by Los Angeles based Americana band Dawes, who will be accompanied by Minneapolis indie rock band Cloud Cult, modern folk rock heavyweight Strand of Oaks, and Bay Area alternative rock outfit The Mother Hips.

“There’s an energy to Cheney Stadium that continues to build, and I think we all feel it,” Team President Aaron Artman said. “It should be a place where people come to listen to great music, so we created the Cheneyville Music Festival to do just that. We want to grow this every year, and hope that the community wants to be a part of it from day one.”

Stadium gates will open to ticketed individuals at 3:00 p.m. with live music on the concourse until field gates are opened at 4:00 p.m. The main show is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m. on the Cheney Stadium grass.

Dawes released their first album in 2009, and have since issued three more studio albums while touring around North America and Europe. The group is composed of brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, along with Wylie Gelber and Duane Betts.

Their most recent album, All Your Favorite Bands, reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard US Folk charts following its release in June 2015. “Rock’s thoughtful past has rarely sounded more vibrant,” Rolling Stone writer David Browne said in his review of the album.

Cloud Cult originally formed as a solo project of Craig Minowa in 1995, and quickly blossomed into a collaborative touring endeavor. Since their inception, Cloud Cult has released 10 studio albums including their most recent project, The Seeker, which debuted in February 2016.

Timothy Showalter formed his rock project, Strand of Oaks, in 2009 and has since released four albums, one EP, and three singles. His most recent album, HEAL, earned numerous awards and myriad recognition, including being named a Top 20 album of the year by the A.V. Club.

The Mother Hips have been playing together since 1990. Beginning with Back to the Grotto in 1993 and continuing through to Chronicle Man in 2014, The Mother Hips have released a total of nine albums while touring along the west coast and across the United States.

The Cheneyville Music Festival follows in the footsteps of the R House Concert Series hosted at Cheney Stadium throughout the summer. Admission is free and open to the public, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. and live music beginning at 7:00 p.m. Each R House Concert Series features local music, beer, and food trucks, all in an amazing block party setting on the Cheney Stadium concourse. Remaining dates this summer include August 12th and 26th.

Tickets are available beginning immediately and can be purchased at the Cheney Stadium Box Office, online at cheneyvillemusicfestival.com, or at any Ticketmaster location.
