Dave Matthews and Pedro The Lion leader Dave Bazan added to SMASH benefit lineup

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee and GRAMMY Award winner Dave Matthews has announced he will perform at the second annual SMASH Benefit to be held on November 24, 7:00 p.m., at the Moore Theatre. Dave Bazan, founder and lead singer of Pedro the Lion, has also signed on to the show. SMASH – Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare – provides access to free or low-cost medical and dental services for working musicians in King County.

Performers will share their take on a selection of Neil Young’s greatest hits catalog. Additional featured artists include: Kim Thayil (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee Soundgarden), Chris Ballew (Casper Babypants, Presidents of the USA), Bruce Fairweather (Mother Love Bone, Low Bar Ramblers), Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Ron Nine, Kevin Whitworth (Love Battery), Carrie Akre (Hammerbox, Goodness), John Roderick (The Long Winters), Dave Alvin, Shelby Earl, The Naked Giants, Ian Moore, LeRoy Bell & Terry Morgan (LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends), Christy McWilson, Shaina Shepherd (Bearaxe) and Tomo Nakayama.

House band includes drummer Michael Musburger (The Posies), bassist Rebecca Young (North Twin), guitarist Tim DiJulio (Stereo Embers, Flight To Mars), and keyboardist Paul Hiraga (Down Pilot).

“We are thrilled that these high-caliber musicians are lending their talents to raise money for this important cause,” Ian Moore, SMASH president, said. “It’s tough to be a working musician in an area with such a high cost of living. And healthcare is often the thing that gets sidelined. SMASH is helping more musicians stay healthy, so they can pursue their art and stay in the Seattle area.”
