Concert Review: Puff Puff Pass Part 2

Whenever Snoop Dogg announces a Seattle date it seems that everyone is excited to attend and it seems like he is in the Northwest more often than other cities due to the mutual love between him and his fans. There is nothing better than spending the night at a show that brings back so many memories from your teenage years. I can still remember how big Snoop’s debut “Doggystyle” was back in 1993 and how it helped shape the West Coast rap movement. The Puff Puff Pass Tour: Part 2 included some of our other old school favorites that only assured the show would be something to remember.

Things were really warming up by the time Tha Dogg Pound hit the stage, another name that we relate to Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg especially in their debuts and Death Row Records. They sang some of their hits from Dogg Food that got the crowd excited and singing along.

Warren G‘s Regulate…G Funk Era debut is still considered one of the greatest rap albums and getting to see him live was a treat. The rapper stepped on stage with much ease and confidence holding a beer, creating the feeling that we were all friends hanging out. He even brought out a Seahawks logo beer can later in the set and had fans cheering back and forth to him in excitement. Everyone completely lost their minds when “Regulate” began playing and it felt so unreal how fast all the lyrics came right back to our minds to sing along.

The rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony formed in Cleveland, and signed by former NWA member, Easy-E was the next on the bill. The five members came out in full force jumping around and interacting with the audience. The Grammy Award winners energized through their set playing favorites “1st of that Month”, “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”, and “East 1999”. When it was time for classic “The Crossroads”, they named a few people that had passed including Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., and their mentor Easy-E. It was an emotionally charged performance which brought everyone back to the exact moment they first heard the song.

The evening was going great and it was even snowing outside as it was time for the main course to take the stage. Snoop Dogg had the biggest smile as he made his way to the front of the stage to say hello to the screaming fans and to begin his set. He was showing his Christmas spirit already by wearing one of his custom made sweaters that had himself and Martha Stewart on it with holiday clothes. With that he was holding his custom made flashy microphone that was gold plated, something that was very 90s of him.

One thing happens for sure after you attend a Snoop show, you leave feeling much happier and in a better mood. Perhaps it’s the audience that is chill and happy, perhaps it’s Snoop promoting love and good vibes before he sings his last tune. He shared how much he loves the city and thanked us for making pot legal, showing his appreciation by smoking on stage throughout the night. Well, most of the performers and their crew did this but that’s the beauty of living in Seattle, no one really cares about it.

His fourteenth studio album Coolaid was released earlier this year which included a wide range of guest vocalists along with impressive producers. Snoop continues to hold his success after twenty-three years in the game and he does it with his unique personal style. The show was packed with hits we all enjoy and can sing along to which makes it a good idea to always show up to them. Snoop along with the rest of the bill put on a great show and we can’t wait to have him back again.

Sophia Barkalakis

Music is probably the most important part of her life. Sophia is constantly searching for new material, old and new. Always looking forward to the next live show she can attend, ready to immerse herself in the sound. "There is something so magical about attending a live show that you cannot possibly feel from a recording itself that makes it worth going to", she says. She also says she's lucky to be able to combine her passion for music with her obsession of capturing moments. She finds that being able to look at a photograph and be transported to that second of your life is indescribable and she's so grateful for all those great moments.
