Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.
Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured artist is Artemis Moon.
Bio:
Artemis Moon is a four-piece prog/psychedelic/rock band comprised of Lauren Murphie (vox), Adam Montgomery (bass and ukulele), Henri Lower (drums), and Taylor Lutzenhiser (guitar). Lauren, Adam, and Henri were all apart of “Lauren Murphie & the Sodo 4” last year but joined forces with Taylor (originally the Lust Punch drummer) to create their passion project, Artemis Moon.
The band has quickly gained steam and popularity through the summer, playing Bellingham Music Film Festival, Trail Mix, Microfest, Seer Fest, and venues such as High Dive, Skylark, and Central Saloon, quickly developing a reputation for consistent energetic and emotional performances.
Artemis Moon has recently released a couple of hard hitting singles that you can find if you scroll down this article a little bit. “When You Grow” is a dreamy progressive rock track that combines a story of evolution and was born of the mutual loss of the guitarist’s mother and Murphie’s loss of her mother and grandmother. A cleanly picked, somber guitar intros the song, followed by a brief progressive influenced rhythm that gives way to Murphie’s soulful vocals in the first verse. An anthemic chorus creates a wall of sound, showcasing what the band is capable of. The follow-up single “Surviving” shows another side of the band, a softer more delicate side, making it refreshingly difficult to slap genre label on them. If you are on the hunt for a unique band that brings a lot to the table, we encourage you to check them out on Spotify or on Soundcloud, it’ll be more than worth your time.
