75 Bands in 75 Days – Day 9: Bone Cave Ballet

Bone Cave BalletLadies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we’re showcasing some of the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, at least one band per day, leading up to December 31st, to ring in a new year. The ninth band up is a band with a crazy name and with a completely unique sound, they are Bone Cave Ballet.

This female-fronted band calls Seattle home and the first thing that hits you are the amazing vocals. My god can Jacqui Gilroy ever sing. But while she is fantastic, the band doesn’t appear to rely on her angelic voice to carry them all the time. They dive into all sorts of crazy souped-up prog-rock style jams mixed with hard hitting melodic rock and then into some neo-classical melodies. It’s a potent blend to be sure.

The band began as a collaboration between two old Detroit friends, vocal virtuoso Jacqui Gilroy and drummer Kelly Mynes. In 2013, with the combined expertise of engineer Robert Cheek (Deftones, Rx Bandits, Tera Melos) and producer Paurl Walsh (X-Ray Press, ExEx Audio), BCB tracked their latest offering, Will of the Waves; a powerful melodic-rock promenade that showcases their diverse array of present-day influences while paying homage to classic prog. Their offering to the Prog-Rock Gods if you will.

Looking forward to hearing much, much more from them.
