75 Bands in 75 Days – Day 57: SweetKiss Momma

SweetKiss MommaLadies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we’re showcasing some of the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, at least one band per day, leading up to December 31st, to ring in a new year. We had to take a few days off to give some attention to the 2014 NorthWest Music Scene Reader’s Poll, so you are going to get a few bands today to catch up. This list is in no particular order and it is not a chart or a countdown. It’s merely a list of bands or musicians that we feel are worthy of checking out. The band for day 57 is a band out of Puyallup called SweetKiss Momma.

They are a band we’ve had the chance to see play live more than a few times and they’ve always put on a great show. Back in the days when we had our radio show on NWCZ Radio, SweetKiss Momma had songs that were featured heavily in our playlist and when the Northwest Music Scene was born on Facebook the band’s name appeared a lot.

“Rootsy, Southern-soul tinged Rock-n-Roll, straight from the heart of the Great Northwest.”

After an over 3 year recording hiatus, SweetKiss Momma came back to unleash “A Reckoning Is Coming”, the follow-up to their debut full-length album “Revival Rock” (one of 2010’s best reviewed, and best-selling, independent Southern/Roots Rock albums).

From our review of SweetKiss Momma‘s latest album – A Reckoning Is Coming ” Jeff Hamel’s deep, gravely vocals are so suited to the heart-wrenching blues style that it just feels like he’s lived and breathed every word he speaks. The guitar work on this album will have any Lowell George fan doing a double take, and the rhythm section keeps things rolling like thunder in a swampy summer heat wave.
