Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we bring you the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, one day and one band at a time. Today we’re returning to Portland to explore one of the heaviest bands in their local scene, Megaton Leviathan.

Hailing from Oregon, Megaton Leviathan is a doom metal band with a very heavy post-rock influence. Their songs have a very grand and epic feel to them, and are just plain heavy. The bands seems just as indebted to bands like Black Sabbath and Candlemass as they are bands like Slint or Talk Talk. If you’re a fan of this rising style known as “post-metal”, you may want to give this band’s music a listen.

Megaton Leviathan recently released their sophomore album Past 21 Beyond the Arctic Cell in September of this year, an album that has been praised by the likes of The Needle Drop and CVLT Nation. Megaton Leviathan puts a unique spin on doom metal, and we could see them really doing well in the underground metal scene in the near future.
