75 Bands in 75 Days – Day 10: Fauna Shade

Fauna ShadeLadies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we’re showcasing some of the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, at least one band per day, leading up to December 31st, to ring in a new year. The tenth band up is a rising northwest band with a dreamy, somewhat psychedelic sound, they are Fauna Shade.

While they aren’t exactly inventing fire with this band they do have a great sound, clearly in the vain of Modest Mouse and they have strong material, which should help distance them from the pack. If you are going to sound like other bands, first of all, you better be damn good and have great songs(or shit-tons of money) if you want to survive.

Fauna Shade began informally in middle school. Bass player Ryile Smith and drummer Eduardo Contreras played music under a variety of names through middle and high school before settling on Fauna Shade. Scotty “Olympus” Smith joined forces with Contreras and the other Smith and is the creative force behind the band.

In an article on clipperonline.com
Smith(Scotty) states his influences span from Otis Redding to MGMT, but that he and his band listen to everything under the sun. “We listen to everything, but we definitely love rock and roll and no matter what we listen to, I feel like it will always be based around the rock and roll spirit and the heart.”
