100 Bands in 100 Days Presented by Verity Credit Union — Day 57: Hundred Loud

Ladies and gentlemen, and all local music enthusiasts, welcome back to the fourth annual outing of our year-end daily local music spotlight, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’ll be showcasing a new band or artist on the cutting edge of the Northwest, presented by Verity Credit Union. Make sure to check the #100Bands100Days hashtag at Twitter daily to stay on top of all the bands featured, and make sure to follow Verity on Twitter and NW_Music_Scene as well. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored Northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the sun yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today we’re out seeking a bit of a thrill, so join us as we turn our attention to one of Seattle’s loudest and proudest, Hundred Loud.

A favorite in Seattle’s riff-crazy metal scene, Hundred Loud isn’t here to reinvent the wheel, but they’re well-equipped to turn things up to 11 at a moment’s notice. The band entered this world kicking and screaming back in 2011, with an unabashed pedal-to-the-floor sound influenced by the worlds of heavy metal, groove metal and slick alternative metal. You can practically feel the sparks flying off the ear-shredding guitar leads unleashed on every track, and the band is no stranger to unconventional, dizzying time signatures, giving their music that added roller coaster level of excitement.

The band has gained notoriety for being a thrilling band in the live setting, leaving it all on the stage with each performance, and this ferocity radiates from the band’s recorded material as well. Hundred Loud’s mission statement is pretty much no muss no fuss; if you’re looking for a band that will balance out the aggression and ferocity with gimmicks and dilly-dallying, you might want to move along. The few tracks the band has released online via Bandcamp show a lot of potential for the band, with songs like the sludgy, bombastic “Rebel With a Trust Fund” being among their best and most promising. With the band set to begin recording a brand new EP in the fall with resident heavy music wizard Jack Endino, we’re expecting pretty great things to come from Hundred Loud in the coming months.
