Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, hello and welcome back to our third annual year-end daily countdown, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, presented by Verity Credit Union. Follow the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter to stay on top of all the bands featured and make sure to follow Verity on Twitter as well. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician that perhaps you haven’t been turned onto yet, and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the sun yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s musical offering is going to take us up north to Bellingham for a band called Snug Harbor.

Reading through the bios of the various members of Snug Harbor, you find out pretty quickly that this is a group of extremely well schooled musicians. Of course that doesn’t always mean that a roomful of degrees is going to automatically result in great music but Snug Harbor clearly has the synergy and the talent to make that happen.  Some of the members of the band come from other places around Washington, while still others have migrated from other parts of the country to assemble in Bellingham and make up the integral parts of this exciting musical troupe.

Snug Harbor is quite diversified and mixes a number elements  such as jazz, soul and funk. Equally adept at laying down a serious funk groove on instrumental tracks like Callipygian Reality from their 2013 EP release This Is Snug or a sort of world jazz sound on “Bioluminescent Voyage” from the same EP.

Snug Harbor has been a cornerstone of the NW soul, funk and groove scene for the past decade. Formed in 2007, this incredible group has seen some lineup changes, but remain one of the top tier groups in their genre. They have played Red Rocks and the Fillmore, backing the Michal Menert Big Band, as well as releasing a handful of albums and videos. With their newest and most talented addition yet, vocalist Sinclair Hucke, brings new dynamics and lyricism to the group. They have recorded and performed alongside Bernie Worrell, Tim Alexander and traveled extensively during their tenure as a band in the Pacific Northwest.

In their bio Snug Harbor states that their existence lies in its roots to explore the significance behind music. The mission of their music is to bring positivism and imagination to the minds of the audience through unadulterated soul and funk grooves. They attempt to make purposeful music for a meaningful audience. And

With a new album on the way, we are extremely excited to what kind of funky future lies ahead of this band.

(You can check out Snug Harbor on Facebook and you can listen to them at Bandcamp and stream “Callipygian Reality” below. Also, check out their Youtube promo video for their upcoming album.)
