Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured band is Observer Effect.

About the band:

Bio: Observer Effect is a rock and hard rock band that combines intensity with soul, with driving yet intricate musicianship, and vocals that are by turns soaring and sultry. The band was started by longtime PNW vocalist and songwriter Angela Hammontree (Angela Hammontree Band) in an effort to create a more collaborative project to compliment her work as a solo songwriter. She and her longtime bassist Kevin Lynch joined forces with guitarist/composer Doug Samm and drummer Rico Ybarra, both formerly of TerraNova, to complete the lineup. All seasoned pros, these musicians have played nearly every venue in the PNW with their prior projects, as well as local TV, radio, and festivals such as Hempfest and Pridefest. In 2018, Observer Effect recorded their debut self-titled EP. It was released in September to great reviews, and the song “Gripping the Wheel” will be featured on a compilation of up-and-coming rock bands in “Classic Rock” magazine (a respected UK publication), which will be included in their December issue. With gigs being scheduled for 2019, Observer Effect is the new name to watch for in Seattle rock and hard rock music.

Today’s featured band are certainly no strangers to stages and recording studios all around the northwest. The collective experience they’ve had in past projects shines brightly throughout in Observer Effect’s recently released self-titled four-song EP. With the set of pipes that Hammontree possesses it’s no great surprise that the new project would feature her powerful voice prominently but there’s more to the band than that. A tight-as-hell rhythm section meshes together and lays the foundation for plenty of tasty guitar riffage while still leaving plenty of room for Angela’s voice to propel the tunes. If you are looking for another northwest rock band to rally around and support, check this one out. You can listen to the new EP HERE or click the link below.
