Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, hello and welcome back to our third annual year-end daily countdown, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, presented by Verity Credit Union. Follow the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter to stay on top of all the bands featured and make sure to follow Verity on Twitter as well. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician that perhaps you haven’t been turned onto yet, and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the sun yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s musical offering is a fantastic Seattle artist named Tekla Waterfield.

Tekla Waterfield is another one of the amazing singer-songwriters that is making Seattle and the greater northwest a hotbed for that genre. Boasting an impressive resume that includes frequent guest spots with the highly revered Seattle Rock Orchestra and performances with a collective called the Bushwick Book Club(a group of artists who create work inspired by literature). She’s also been featured at Experience the City Of Music, a cooperative effort by the Port of Seattle, the Office of Film + Music, Seattle Music Commission and PlayNetwork. It is a comprehensive effort to showcase the Northwest’s diverse music culture and enhance the experience of millions of travelers who pass through the airport.

Tekla’s debut album, This Nightlife Is Wearing On Me, was self-released in December of 2015, receiving  attention and airplay on 91.3 KBCS. The album  features 12 well put together songs that combines elements of folk, country, R&B and blues with perhaps some Americana thrown in. She has plans to begin recording her second album in January 2017 with Jeff Fielder producing.

She’s no stranger to stages around the northwest, hosting open mics around Seattle and teaching with Songwriting Through Youth Literature Education and Rain City Rock Camp for girls. Tekla’s been a featured guest vocalist with various artists and bands including Wayne Horvitz, Jeff Fielder, Tobias the Owl, Honey Noble, Michael Stegner, the Aaron Zuege Band, Sam Russell and the Teen Soul Explosion, Jeff Kanzler, the Devin Sinha Band, General Mojo’s Key Project, and David Buhler.

She is a dynamic singer/songwriter with genre bending songs from R&B, folk, to country, jazz and soul; with musical influences coming heavily from Gillian Welch, Neko Case, Wilco, Phosphorescent, Neil Young, Erykah Badu, Marvin Gaye, Mazzy Star, the Cowboy Junkies, Johnny Cash, The Shins, Courtney Barnett, Tom Waits and more… She has a variety of amazing and talented folks on her roster to fill out the “band” sound. She is currently rocking out with Melissa Montalto on keys/vocals (F2D Funk 2 Death), Aaron O’Neil on drums (Star Anna, Great Spiders), David Trump on bass (Natalie Wouldn’t), and Mike Thornhill on lead guitar (Devin Sinha band).

We’ll be keeping our ears open for her next release for sure.
