Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag at Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity on Twitter and NW_Music_Scene as well. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the sun yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured artist is Pound.

About the band:

Pound is an experimental music project from Seattle, WA that combines elements of grindcore, math, dbeat and sludge metal, featuring Ryan Schutte on guitar and David Stickney on drums.

We recently reviewed the duo’s brutal debut album, here’s some of what we had to say:

Pound’s debut and self-titled record (out now through Silent Pendulum Records) holds a place for both tech-savvy gear nerds and monstrous head bangers.

Ryan Schutte’s 9-string baritone guitar and David Stickney’s two drum kits shape this eclectic duo’s brand of metal, boot strap punk, math-rock and grind. Pound’s instrumental sound is meticulously funneled into crisp timing and sharp rhythms. Formed in 2008, Schutte and Stickney play music in uncanny unison – advanced telepathy practitioners would struggle to keep up.

Void of catchy choruses or hooks, Pound’s energetic calculations are battered in by sound and in their unusual coded, dashed, and dotted song titles. At first take, this reads like a gimmicky pull, but on repeat listens, these odd patterns provide glimpses into Pound’s staunch hold to rhythm and attack.

If you like your music heavy as hell, and haven’t heard about Pound yet, look no further than today’s offering, you’ll be thanking us later. Check out the new album HERE.
