Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured artist is Of the Heavy Sun.

About the band:

Of the Heavy Sun is a two-piece psychedelic rock band based in Seattle, Washington. They are currently touring behind their second full release, After Dark. The two members,  Samuel Emerick (bass, guitar and vocals) and Jake Ivester (drums) are influenced by a wide range of music; King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Shame and Parquet Courts are some recent band favorites.

Since the band’s conception in 2015, they have played all over the South and Midwest. After relocation to Seattle, they have played many of the Seattle haunts such as the Sunset, Chop Suey, Victory Lounge, LoFi, Funhouse, Central Saloon, Substation and the High Dive. As well as regional shows in Fife, Tacoma, Bellingham and Tukwila in addition to many house shows.

On the new release, the band works hard to create a sonically pleasing, psychedelic dreamscape, plastered with enough grooves to keep you listening for days. Give the new album a listen HERE and you’ll be a fan.

Catch them live:

They’ll be playing on December 19 at Tractor Tavern.
