The Symphony Guild presents ONWARD: Mateo Messina’s 17th Annual Benefit Concert

hero-0Now in the 17th year of creating spectacular benefit concerts benefiting Seattle Children’s Hospital the mission remains to enrich the quality of children’s lives in the Northwest and raise funds to support uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Mateo Messina’s Benefit Concerts for Seattle Children’s Hospital is an annual concert featuring international, local, and patient artists with proceeds benefiting uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

This year’s concert, ONWARD, explores the different journeys we take in a lifetime. Benaroya Hall will be transformed into an airport terminal from which you will be taken on a unique trip through familiar situations & likely see them anew. The story & music will guide you on a voyage of discovery that is less about seeing new places as it is about seeing with new eyes. There will be many visual & musical surprises as there always are in this concert series. Purchase TICKETS

Mateo Messina is a Grammy winning (Juno, 2008) composer who writes music for film, television, and the symphony. His signature sound can be found on many of today’s Oscar winning movies & independent film hits. The beauty of unfamiliar sounds becoming musical is one of Mateo’s unique sought after talents.

With studios in Hollywood and Seattle, Mateo & his team have been delivering a fresh, unique style of filmscore for the past decade. His score to Juno is often mimicked, his energy is bounding, and his creativity knows no bounds. He’s a dreamer and a doer. Also, since the age of 23, Mateo has written, produced, and premiered 17 symphonies. Each premiere has been a benefit concert for families at Seattle Children’s Hospital. To date, he and his team have raised over $1,000,000 for these children and their families. Mateo is an accomplished musician, a unique storyteller, a seasoned producer, a dependable man of his business, and one of today’s most innovative composers.

The Symphony Guild is comprised of more than 50 volunteers who work to produce a unique musical experience each year. The moving performances surpass traditional expectations for symphonies by incorporating new elements, such as multimedia and children performers, as well as featuring special guest artists (such as bands Alice In Chains and Heart) who leave audiences feeling inspired and enchanted.

The 17th annual Mateo Messina’s Benefit Concert for Children’s Hospital will take place on Friday, November 14 at Benaroya Hall. The concert starts at 8 p.m., and this year’s special guests include Erik Walters of Silver Torches and Hadley Strecker, a 12-year old patient at Seattle Children’s who will preform song written by Mateo. I would encourage you to watch the YouTube video of Hadley, who was born with the incurable condition – spinal bifida. She’s just lovely. Purchase tickets HERE

Silver Torches reinvents the indie rock sounds of Seattle with the unique lyrical style of its solo vocalist Erik Walters. The debut album, “The Living Fact,” features songs written, played and sung by Walters. It follows in the confessional and personal footsteps of the Northwest indie sound of Death Cab for Cutie, David Bazan, and Damien Jurado, but with an iconography unique to Walters.
