SASSY BLACK

Sassy Black is a space aged vocalist & producer based in Seattle, WA. You may know her voice from her previous group THEESatisfaction or her work on the Shabazz Palaces albums. This Goddess of “electronic psychedelic soul” & “hologram funk” explores sound through deep compositions. With roots in classical & jazz, her voice is comparable to Ella Fitzgerald & Sarah Vaughan while her production value is reminiscent of Roy Ayers, Pharrell & Herbie Hancock. Black has traveled the world having performed in Berlin, Barcelona, New Orleans, Milan, London, Brooklyn & beyond.

Sassy has gained praise from The Fader, NYLON, Pitchfork, Noisey, Saint Heron, SPIN & many others. She successfully released her sophomore albumNew Black Swing June 23rd and is recently returned from touring North America & Europe in Autumn 2017. She will be releasing new music in 2018.

“Afrofuturism meets retro Hip-hop in soul singer SassyBlack’s new music video “Glitches” — If “Glitches” is representative of what’s to come from SassyBlack’s ‘New Black Swing,’ we’re definitely in for a treat.” AFROPUNK

“As a queer black woman inspired by everything from her IRL relationships to her scifi-heavy media diet, Cat is naturally out of this world. — ‘New Black Swing’ [It’s] an expansive, vulnerable, psych-funk mind-trip, seamlessly layering her silky R&B vocals atop lush synths and throbbing bass.”  —i.D

“If you find it difficult to categorize SassyBlack’s music, that means she’s doing it right. [This song] “I’ll Wait For You,” in particular, is a mix of psychedelic, electronic, soul and jazz blended up into one, pure sound bite.”  —NYLON

THE SESHEN

San Francisco Bay Area-based six-piece The Seshen is led by singer/lyricist Lalin St. Juste and bassist/producer Akiyoshi Ehara. The duo is joined by four remarkable bandmates to create their multidimensional music: drummer Chris Thalmann, keyboard/synth player Mahesh Rao, percussionist Mirza Kopelman, and sampler Kumar Butler. Their forward-thinking sound combines synthesizers, drum machines, live percussion and entrancing harmonies for an unmistakable fusion of R&B, synth-pop and electronic music. Through their much-talked-about live shows, and four releases to date (2012’s self-released, eponymous debut LP, the ‘Unravel’ and ‘Unravel Remixes’ Eps, and their latest LP, Flames & Figures on Tru Thoughts), their distinctive music has gained support from the likes BBC 6Music, KCRW, NPR, OkayPlayer, The Fader, Mass Appeal, and Popmatters.

“A lot of artists tout, in their minds at least, that they’re the epitome of cool. But few exemplify that through their music like The Seshen.” – MASS APPEAL

“It’s always cause for celebration when there’s new music from The Seshen” – AFROPUNK

“Beautiful, soulful, and just a little otherworldly…Lalin St. Juste’s voice is the perfect counterpoint, pouring through the spaces between keys and loops like honey” – POPMATTERS
