Review: Borgeous and Morgan Page Blow the Roof Off Showbox SoDo

Dance music lovers didn’t need much of an excuse to attend a party at Showbox SoDo on a Saturday night, especially with headliners Morgan Page and Borgeous. This was one of a few spots the Souls & Sins tour was stopping at, and we were all excited to be a part of its majesty. The night opened with the Los Angeles based duo Delora, which brought high energy remixes as well as live performance to the lineup. The venue was full early on and everywhere you looked you saw the kandi ravers appeared ready to exchange bracelets and light shows.

Around 10:30, Morgan Page made his way to the tables and the dancing became even more intense than before. People didn’t stop moving throughout the entirety of his set, as he effortlessly played his own songs with some of his great remixes. I had never caught a full show of his, and I was really pleased with his choice of songs as I was surprised as to how many I’d loved early on in his career and forgotten about. Hearing “Body Work” never gets old for me, as it’s still one of my favorite tracks.

He had great visual effects production, with a lot of interactive videos that were carefully made to sync to the songs. The lyrics would pop up with the song, but the video was edited from the original one that made it look really carefully crafted. He played his popular tracks “In The Air,” “Fight For You,” “Carry Me,” “Open Heart,” “Running Wild,” and of course the Grammy-nominated “Longest Road.”

He did a great job integrating popular song remixes that pleased everyone in the crowd like “Hello,” “Lean On,” “Habits (Stay High),” “Outside,” and his popular mix of classic 80s tune, “Your Love.” Page is a great DJ for me, as he still keeps his music relatable to everyone but not predictable as many do these days to gain success. He has real talent, which he always uses to create his own tunes that stand as original compositions, but is also able to make good remixes of popular songs that are an extension of his own style.

Borgeous took the stage around midnight and he kept the momentum going, starting strong with bass-heavy tracks like his hit “Tsunami.” He kept the high energy of the night going with people continuing to dance throughout his set. We heard a good mix of current as well as older classics, including “Alive,” “Seven Nation Army,” “Under The Bridge,” “Next Episode,” “One More Time,” and Calvin Harris’ “How Deep Is Your Love.”

The lineup and music was good all-around and I think this combination of both is an all-star show that is completely worth going to.  You’ll get to hear old favorites as well as your tunes from the moment in great mix.

Music is probably the most important part of her life. Sophia is constantly searching for new material, old and new. Always looking forward to the next live show she can attend, ready to immerse herself in the sound. "There is something so magical about attending a live show that you cannot possibly feel from a recording itself that makes it worth going to", she says. She also says she's lucky to be able to combine her passion for music with her obsession of capturing moments. She finds that being able to look at a photograph and be transported to that second of your life is indescribable and she's so grateful for all those great moments.
