Review: Anne-Marie Sanderson – Shadows & Sparks EP
Due out February 3, 2015, Shadows & Sparks, the latest self-released EP by Britain-born, Portland-based singer-songwriter Anne-Marie Sanderson, leaves you feeling like you are floating down a lazy river, in the warm sun, with no worries. You can tell that Sanderson sings from her heart with a beautiful voice, fluid guitar and a calm demeanor. The violin playing by Mirabai Peart and cello playing by Anna Fritz add elegance to these songs, while Erin Stephen’s percussion adds some depth to it all.
Anne-Marie Sanderson calls her music “acoustic dream folk”, and that’s a fitting descriptor. It’s reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell with the vocal changes, and it’s executed in a very pretty way. The song “Lilac Time” has some very cool shifts in mood, which add some excitement to the song. All in all this is a great and beautiful EP that’s definitely worth a listen, especially for fans of folk music.
Song List:
1. Shadows and Sparks
2. Lilac Time
3. The Outside Of Time
4. It May Not Always Be
5. Lullaby
