Review: Alyse Black Creates Magic in her Songs on Self-Titled Release

Alyse Black

In a world where sadness and fear run rampant through the hearts of so many, Seattle native Alyse Black spreads some much needed warmth and happiness with her newest album, Alyse Black. Released on January 24th, 2017 and produced by Eric Rosse, Black’s self-titled record will make you feel love for others, yourself, and life in general.

Black has the rare ability in today’s industry to be a magnificent songwriter and singer. Each track has a foundation of meaningful, positive lyrics, and is elevated to the next level with Black’s ethereal vocals. She possesses a soft, pleasant tone similar to that of Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, yet also brings in just the right amount of grit in certain songs to separate herself from the mainstream. Black’s voice speaks for itself and isn’t masked by any computer generated sounds or autotune, it’s just her and some backing instrumentals creating musical magic.

Black’s voice isn’t the only thing worth paying attention to in each track. Her lyrics are rich in meaning, which is no surprise considering her first place award in Billboard’s annual songwriting contest. Black writes about her life, love and experiences, and as you listen to what she has to say, upliftment is inevitable.

Although her career began in Seattle, Black’s music has heavy Texas vibes, which is where she currently resides. Many of the tracks on the album have a country feel, but no matter your music genre preference, Black’s voice speaks to anyone and everyone.
Through her crystal-clear vocals, charming melodies and reflective words, Alyse Black has created a cohesive, enthralling album that truly shows how beautiful life can be.
