KEXP’s Audioasis Presents Community Partnership Concerts in support of City Fruit.

City FruitsKEXP’s Audioasis presents Community Partnership Concerts in support of City Fruit. On Saturday, May 2, KEXP hosts a benefit show featuring the Weather, NAVVI, and Winnebago at The Sunset in Ballard. Tickets are on sale now at ticketweb.com and KEXP.org.

KEXP’s featured non-profit of the month is City Fruit, a local organization dedicated to harvesting fruit from residential properties and public parks and making it available to food banks and meal programs throughout Seattle.

“Fresh fruit is like a present on Christmas Day for our clients,” says Rick Jump, Executive Director of the White Center Food Bank.

According to Catherine Morrison, Executive Director of City Fruit, “City Fruit donates more fruit to the White Center Food Bank than any other food bank or meal program.”

KEXP’s Audioasis designed the Community Partnership Program to create connections between KEXP listeners and deserving local charities. The hope is that these connections will increase awareness of the mission and work of local organizations and the impact they have on the larger community.

“Working with an organization that cares so passionately about building community and protecting the climate is the exact type of organization that KEXP wants to align ourselves with,“ says event co-organizer and KEXP DJ Sharlese Metcalf. “I appreciate the heart that City Fruit puts into making sure Seattle is healthy and happy.”

You can join City Fruit right now to help Save Seattle’s Apples! The goal is to build awareness about Seattle’s urban canopy, the proper care and management of apples trees, and providing opportunities for the public to protect apples.

In addition to making a healthy apple harvest possible, bagging individual growing apples on a tree prevents common pests from spreading to nearby trees, keeps nutritious food from going to waste, helps to preserve the biological diversity of fruit trees in Seattle, and promotes safe pedestrian conditions.
