Review: Ghostland Observatory Brings Two Nights of Ecstasy to The Crocodile
Did you remember to wear your comfortable shoes? If you didn’t, then your feet are bound to be hurting after spending the night with Ghostland Observatory in Seattle this past weekend. We had the chance to cover night 2 of their sold-out shows at Seattle’s Crocodile over the weekend. We had no doubt that we would have a fun time, as they never disappoint at their live shows. This was my first time seeing them outside Showbox SoDo, and I wasn’t sure how the space would work for their lighting production, but it was mystifying as ever.
The space was a bit smaller, but that didn’t stop the lasers from taking over and beaming over the audience throughout the night. GLO came out a little after ten, and wasted no time getting into it, taking the fans with them. Aaron Behrens sang and danced around the stage the whole night, showing us his serious dance moves occasionally, and playing the guitar, all the while while keeping his sunglasses on Thomas Turner stood behind the synthesizers controlling the rest, always wearing his signature cape.
Even though the duo hasn’t released a new record in a while, they did come out with their Life of the Party EP last year, which added a couple new tunes to their set. I honestly don’t mind just listening to their older songs as well; I don’t think I can ever get tired of “Piano Man,” “Sad Sad City,” “No Place for Me,” “Glitter,” “Midnight Voyage,” and “Silver City.”
The dance beats bring you to their shows, but the lasers keep you around forever. These guys are good at what they do and they prove it every time they play. I’m always happy coming out to see them because I know it will be a blast. Watching Aaron take the stage and genuinely look like he is having the time of his life is memorable every time.
