Ed Shrader’s Music Beat to play The Vera Project on April 1

ED SHRADER’S MUSIC BEAT TO PLAY THE VERA PROJECT ON APRIL 1, 2018

Baltimore-based post-punk duo Ed Schrader’s Music Beat just put out their new Dan Deacon-produced album and Carpark Records debut Riddles. In search of a fresh direction, band members Ed and Devlin Rice invited their close friend, electronic-pop maestro and fellow Baltimore-based artist Dan Deacon, to expand their sound as the album’s producer, arranger, and co-writer. The result: a polished and passionate masterpiece of nuanced alt-rock, created during an intense period of personal tumult – the death of Ed’s stepfather, the end of Dan’s longest relationship, and the passing of Devlin’s terminally ill brother. It’s the album our hearts wanted us to make,”  says Ed. All three musicians invested their souls into this record for two full years, and it shows.

“Baltimore freak-fuzz duo Ed Schrader’s Music Beat recall the moodswinging of post-punk minimalists like Suicide, Metal Urbain and Young Marble Giants but with the exploded confetti hooks of Baltimore’s loose, neon-coated Wham City collective… the result is a noise-punk album that bursts with psychedelic twists, 4AD-esque reverb, Steve Reich-ian piano licks and even an Ultravox-y ballad in ‘Wave to the Water.'” – Rolling Stone

“[Riddles] is a fascinating piece of work that is both ugly and beautiful, often at the same time. The beauty of this music is in the trance-inducing pulse that drives it; a chaos of pulsing, incessant rhythms… [an] odd and captivating piece of work.” – NPR

“[On Riddles] they enter a world of racing synths, ’80s pop melodies, and sporadic violins. It’s the most unpredictable sound to come from Ed Schrader’s Music Beat so far, and yet somehow, the most unexpected part of it all is how well it suits them…a defining point in their career.” – Pitchfork
