Storied indie rock legends Dinosaur Jr. will be making their way to The Showbox on a nationwide tour supporting their newest LP, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, released just earlier this month. The eleventh record in the band’s discography, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not has received positive attention from the music press for J Mascis and company’s ability to stick to their guns and make an album that still sounds like classic Dinosaur Jr. some 32 years into their career. Fans can expect to show up and hear new material off that record, as well as more classic material from their extensive and hit-filled back-catalog.

The release of Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not finds Dinosaur Jr. breaking the time-space continuum: the trio’s now released more records in the 21st century than the 20th. 11 years after the band’s reunion, it’s enough to make a person take a long, thoughtful slug of maple-flavored bourbon and thank some lucky stars. Nine of the 11 cuts are fronted by J Mascis, a man who’s worn his fair share of hats (both tangible and intangible) in the music realm. The other tracks, belonging to Lou Barlow, are similarly reflective of the songwriter – mercurial and shifting, recalling his work in Sebadoh. Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not highlights the stark differences, which puts Dino at their best: how else could the band’s music remained exciting any other way?

Support for the 21-and-over show will be coming from San Francisco rock band Moon Duo. For more information on the event, consult showboxpresents.com/events/detail/310936. Tickets are available via AXS while they last (which probably won’t be long).
