Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our fifth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, once again presented by Verity Credit Union.

Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured artist is Of Lioness.

Bio:

Of Lioness is a Cascadian Post-Rock project with it’s roots deep inside of atmospheric metal and experimental rock. Of Lioness sprouted its first seeds in a studio apartment bathroom and one man as a musical journal with those he cared for. Eventually after years of flying solo, the project took on a new face as a live band. The songs and texture took on new life during the first live performances in the summer of 2015. This line up only lasted a short while and the band took a creative hiatus. At this time, the name changed hands from Aaron Cain to Shane Peterson and an EP “Void” was released with stoner/doom elements showcased at the forefront of Shapeless and a more subdued post-rock influenced Colorless. Finally, Shane, after long writing and recording periods with studio drummer and writer, Zack Demaray, a freshman full length release was nearly ready. But that wasn’t enough for him. Shane wanted to bring this music to the stage and needed a line up. He reached out to Aaron Cain again to stand behind six strings as well as Ian Pearson on drums and Chris Toy manning the low end. As of July, 2018, life was breathed back into Of Lioness. Our brand new full length will be premiered on October, 13, 2018 at Attwood Engine Services in Aberdeen, Washington and will be prepping for a supporting 2019 west coast summer tour.

Today’s featured band is one that has clearly worked hard on their craft over the last handful of years and while they definitely would fit in the post-rock or post-metal categories, it’s not hard to pick up on their deep stoner/doom influences. On “Tidal” from their recently released The Process of Sleep, one is prepared for them to flip the switch and drop copious amounts of sludge at any time. They never quite get there, instead deciding to hang out right on the edge of the cliff and deliver a well put together post-rock/metal mixture but not to worry, the stoner/doom is bubbling right beneath the surface. The title track of The Process of Sleep is a nine minute plus behemoth that allows this group of talented rockers to flex their muscles and get into some never-ending grooves. Check out the full album HERE via Bandcamp and check them out live on New Year’s in Oly. (Show details can be found below)
