Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, hello and welcome back to our third annual year-end daily countdown, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’re showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about, presented by Verity Credit Union. Follow the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter to stay on top of all the bands featured and make sure to follow Verity on Twitter as well. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician that perhaps you haven’t been turned onto yet, and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the sun yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s journey takes us a little ways down I-5 to the Rose City for a great sounding band named Stoneface Honey.

If you’ve been a music fan around the northwest for any length of time you no doubt know that our area is jam packed with talented musicians just waiting to be heard. Stoneface Honey is one of those bands that we have a lot of around here seeming to live somewhere between indie-pop and roots based music but they sprinkle in a little gypsy jazz flavored piano work on top to give it a unique texture. The sound they’ve created is infectious and it sets them apart from others that skirt these genres, due in large part to the larger than life vocal harmonies that permeate throughout the band’s music.

Stoneface Honey is led by singer Angie Kopshy and the music features a duo of female vocal harmonies backed by organ, synth, guitar, electric bass, drums, cello, clarinet and violin. After a successful kickstarter campaign, Stoneface Honey recorded their latest album Long Time Waiting with producer/engineer Charles Neal of Hip Stew Studios. Dana White at Specialized Mastering handled the album’s finishing touches.

Although the band is led by the wonderful vocals of Angie Kopshy and could definitely ride on the strength of her voice alone, she generously allows plenty of room for the myriad of other instruments to live and breathe in the tunes. On the song “Beguiled” Kopshy is assisted marvelously by the angelic voice of Kate Austin while Dan Johnson plays tasteful guitar licks and proves he has soulful chops while never over-doing it.  Their new album Long Time Waiting is set for release on November 4, so if you are looking for a new local band to love, you might have just found them.

You can follow Stoneface Honey on Facebook and Twitter, and you can also stream “Beguiled” below via Soundcloud.
